Tchula Trip!

  • During the summer of 2014, YDSP headed to Tchula, Mississippi.
  • The more experienced girls taught citizens of the area how to sew.
  • During the trip, the YDSP members also visited
    • Memphis, Tennessee
    • Mud Island and the Mud Island Museum
    • And the Lorraine Hotel, where Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated.

Florida Trip!

  • The 5th grade members explored Florida during summer  2014.
  • In Florida, they learned to crochet, experienced Daytona Beach, and visited a chocolate factory, Epcot, and Gatorland.

Learning to Interview!

  • Susan Wilson from the UGA Career Center visited YDSP to teach the girls how to be successful in an interview.
  • To give them interviewing experience, the older members of YDSP acted as the employers & sewed pillows
  • Then, they hired younger members as employees to hand sew the pillows closed.

Savannah Trip!

  • The 4th graders went to Savannah during the summer of  2014.
  • Once there, they learned about the history of the area and had the opportunity to visit Fort Pulaski
  • They also took a boat tour of the Savannah River, taking in the sites and history of the city. 

Learning About Turkey!

  • One of our volunteers traveled to Turkey.
  • Upon return, she came to share stories from her trip with YDSP
  • She also shared interesting facts about Turkey, and even some authentic Turkish food!
